Painted at Longpres near Amiens. Lanscape with attenuated trees right and line of similar trees running diagonally from near top left to background right. Lower range of Belgian looking pollarded trees stands in the shadow of the taller species. A few people and sheep on the grass foreground. Low horizon, pale blue almost flat sky. Light and sage greens predominate, with a touch of brown in the couple to the left and a dark blue on the figure foreground. In the RA sketchbooks there is a photograph of two layers of trees, reflected in a stream, and a watercolour sketch similar to this painting.
